The good life is the life that looks back and says ‘that was good’. That is all very well, but here we stand on the other side, the side that looks forward to a good life. What do we look for? What is good? Is it good to get rid of one’s enemy? Is it good to love him? Is it good to die for one’s country? Is it good to enjoy hitting the other cheek? Is it good to understand how things work? Is it good to control the world? Is it good to give someone or something a place? Is it good to be part of the world? Is it good to be part of the very small? Is it good to live wildly? Is it good to drink a cup of hot tea when things become too much? Is it good to cry in the face of beauty? Is it good to have silenced people who make too much noise? Is it good to build a good building on a place that was already good without it? Is it good to escape? Is it good to be very rich? Is it good to be poor? Is it good to fly in your dreams and swing your arms? Is it good to eat chocolate? Is it good to eat a lot?
